About The Home of Medicine

In Association with RCP Edinburgh

Welcome to the medical podcast that pulls back the curtain on the acute medical take. The Home of Medicine isn’t just about the diagnosis; it’s about the person behind the patient and the doctor behind the decision.

The Origin Story

The podcast wasn’t born in a hospital ward, but at a medical conference. Amie heard Ben’s “perfect radio voice” from across the room and knew they had a story to tell. They quickly bonded over their shared love for West End musicals and a fascination with cognitive biases. Just a short time later, The Home of Medicine was born, a space where clinical reasoning meets real-life emotion.

Our Mission

We want to educate, inspire, and empower the doctors of today and tomorrow. By sharing real cases, honest mistakes, and the “art” of the post-take, we help clinicians navigate uncertainty and master the human craft of medicine.

Meet the Hosts

Dr. Amie Burbridge

A proud Wolverhampton native and a 2005 Warwick Medical School grad, Amie has spent the last 20 years navigating the highs and lows of the NHS with a stethoscope in one hand and a passion for teaching in the other.

  • The Clinical Detective: Amie is an Acute Physician and who has worn many hats in education. She is a global speaker on medical errors and cognitive biases, but her heart belongs to the one-on-one patient interaction.
  • Podcasts, Plants, and Northern Lights:Her obsession with podcasting started with S-Town. When she isn’t recording, she’s in her garden, chasing the Northern Lights, or attempting to sing West End songs (badly).
  • Amie’s Top Pick 🎧:“Chest Pain: A Missed Opportunity.” It’s honest, slightly painful, and packed with the kind of learning you only get when things don’t go quite as well as they should.

Dr. Ben Lovell

A Consultant in Acute Medicine based in the hustle and bustle of London, Ben is the man who keeps the gears of the medical take turning while making sure the next generation stays on their toes.

  • The Momentum Master:When he isn’t solving diagnostic riddles, Ben is shaping the future as the Deputy DME at UCL. A believer in “consultant’s intuition,” he masters the fast-paced art of the post-take.
  • Curtains Up:Ben shares a bond with Amie over musical theatre. If there’s a show-stopper in London, Ben is in the front row (and unlike Amie, he might actually know the notes).
  • Ben’s Top Pick ; TBC
